Highmark Health Internship

This job has the goal of providing the opportunity to acquire practical experience through direct exposure to the related business line(s) and to develop the next generation of diverse business professionals. To that end, the program will provide hands-on training and experience in the business line, expose the various career opportunities in the business line and related areas, and prepare participants for positions in the business.

This internship will support the value proposition surrounding the overlap between provider, payer, and market. The role will focus on Blended/Integrated financial performance of payer/provider and analytic insight generation. The role requires collaboration and strong analytic problem-solving skills. A firm understanding of financial analysis is essential.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree.
• Pursuance of a graduate degree full or part-time in an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduation Date: Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
• Financial education/understanding/experience.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Communicate effectively.
2. Provide professional services as appropriate to the day-to-day operating objectives of the area.
3. Undertake and/or participate in projects and programs designed to develop professional skills and expertise appropriate to the needs of the organization.
4. Participate in the planning and implementation of unit projects and initiatives within area of expertise and ability.
5. Conduct research and reporting inclusive of recommendations or alternative proposals for action.
6. Undertake related studies or enrichment programs as appropriate.
7. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
8. Analyze, evaluate, and interpret appropriate financial and statistical data.
9. Coordinate with other departments, locations, and divisions.
10. Communicate with Management at Highmark, subsidiaries, affiliates, other third parties, etc. as to project status and completion deadlines.
11. Advise management of expected outcomes, and recommending ways to improve the outcomes.
12. Conduct presentation to all levels of management in order to provide a summary of analysis regarding financial results and trends.
13. Develop and/or document business policies, conduct special financial and business related studies, and cooperate with other departments in the preparation of analyses.
14. Conduct financial and business-related analyses and research including the preparation of forecasts and/or analysis of trends.
15. Analyze financial reports and records.
16. Provide reasoning for variances and make recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
17. Independently pursue fundamental problem solving and documents the recommendations to management.
18. Utilize computer to input, retrieve or display accounting information. Develop and maintain spreadsheets and databases.
19. Utilize PC and/or mainframe based systems and software, compile and prepare reports, graphs and charts of data developed.
20. Serve as a project lead for special projects within the department.
21. Lead and document financial analysis projects including the preparation of ad hoc reports; to include but not limited to; gathering of data, analysis, documentation of findings, and calculation of results and generation of reports for distribution.
22. Coordinate activities to ensure the project is advancing properly and to ensure the project is completed within the timeframes established.
23. Make recommendations based on findings when necessary.
24. Other duties as assigned or requested.
