To serve justice in Illinois and increase public safety by promoting positive change for those in custody, operating successful reentry programs, and reducing victimization.

Responsibilities:

• Maintaining order: Enforcing rules and keeping order in correctional facilities 
• Supervising inmates: Monitoring activities, work assignments, and meals 
• Conducting searches: Looking for contraband, such as weapons or drugs, and conducting visual surveillance 
• Resolving conflicts: Settling disputes and ending violent confrontations between inmates 
• Inspecting facilities: Checking for security breaches and ensuring facilities meet safety standards 
• Transporting inmates: Escorting inmates between jails, prisons, courtrooms, and other locations 
• Reporting: Completing forms and reports on the conduct of inmates

Requirements:

• 18 years of age
• Valid driver's license
• High School Diploma or GED certificate
• U.S. citizen or authorized alien with proof of a permanent resident card
• Speak, read, and write English
